We all have our multifarious and imaginative user names (and some which are downright crazy), but often in conversation these names are altered or ignored completely in favour of more friendly (or *ahem* less friendly) nicknames.

So what's your nickname? Do you have a favourite? Personally I have at times been called Fort and also Red, nothing too extreme, but I've noticed a few which are both baffling and rather funny (Pondy comes to mind).

Have you ever given someone a nickname?

's ok, chol.

I've often nicknamed people, sometimes to their startlement, and sometimes it has caught on.

Dlowan and I called pfkflyer 'piffka' and 'pifka' at virtually the same time back on abuzz and she likes it and took it for her name here.

I am often called osso here, which I like. I even call myself that. Many people have trouble spelling ossobuco, so it works out well that I like the nickname. Blatham calls me 'oss', a singular variation.

All I get is 'cav'. Apparently there was an SNL copyright infringment on 'Funky Walker, Dirty Talker.'

Pondy is Mr. Stillwater, FYI. (still water = pond, get it?) I've been soz forever, don't remember where it started (Gautam?). First syllables often become nics.

My screen name used to be macsm11, which I had shortened. But someone (ehBeth I think?) called me maximillion because of that for a while.

Mac is my occasional nickname in real life, so it's what I'm used to. (It's my initials.) Mom hates it, says it sounds like a truck driver, and she wouldn't have given me those initials if she thought I'd be using them that way... Very Happy

People usually refer to me as set. When they do this all in caps, SET, my dyslexia often leads me to read it as SETI--search for extra-terrestrial intelligence, and my first thought is that we need to establish whether or not there is intelligent life on this planet before we go looking for it elsewhere.

My handle is only 4 letters, so it's pretty hard to shorten. Although, in some places online, people call me smoggy/smoggie, which I don't understand, since it's even more typing. Oh well.

I've only gotten "Pam." Boring. I knew I should have gone with "Bumcakes" or "Cuddlefritz."

In real life though...my parents sometimes called me "Pamalot."

I have also been called "Pamcakes."
