I've just listened to a new musician. He's a hasidic Jew from Crown Heights who sings reggae. Apparently he discovered his Jewish identity by listening to the likes of Bob Marley. He has some free music on his website

and I gave it a listen. I really like it, but I haven't heard much reggae besides Marley. If he has anything going for him besides the music it's the novelty of a guy dancing around onstage with his tzitzit, or fringes, showing under his shirt. But he won't perform on the Sabbath, so Friday nights are out, and some Saturday nights probably. Oh, and he doesn't wear his glasses onstage or look down much to avoid looking at women he would consider being immodestly dressed. A picture is worth a thousand words though. Here's three:
He says in a downloadable interview that besides the reggae, he was inspired by bands like Phish and I think he mentioned Shlomo Carlebach. I dunno. I hear it.
What do you think of Matisyahu and what other odd marriages have you seen in music?
edit: he is wearing his glasses onstage in those pictures, isn't he? Promo shots maybe?
