i need help finding a book

I read it a while ago. it is about a boy who goes to a school for special powers i think. they use little charms or what nots to help them summon their elemental powers. at the end of the book, the main character summons a huge tornado without the little charm thing. thats the end of the first book. i think one or two more were written from the time i read it. on the cover of the book there is a girl on the right and two boys, in the middle and on the left. i do not remember the name or if my recollection of the plot is accurate, but any help to finding this book would be really appreciated. oh, and the book was written two or three years ago. thank you.
