What the difference between "a few days before"and "a few days ago".

"Ago" refers to today. "Before" needs a reference: Before the party, before the convention, before the 2012 election. If you said "I saw him a few days ago", that stands by itself. If you send "I saw him a few days before", someone would say "Before what?"
