We all have our favorite songs but what is the best? Post what you think is the best ever here.
There can be no best song ever, in my view. I love thousands of songs. No way could I pick just one.
I, too, cannot choose a "best."
There are too many criteria on which to determine "best."
Best lyrics? Best performance? Best mixing?
I will say that some of my favorite songs come from the 1940s. Sing, Sing, Sing; and It Don't Mean a Thing if it Ain't Got that Swing, come to mind.
Oh, but I like the 50s, too. Love the harmonies of the Ink Spots and almost any Doo Wop.
Hmm. The 60's weren't bad, either. I don't care a lot for folk songs, though Mamas and the Papas were great, as were the Beach Boys and Jan & Dean. Motown had lots of great artists in the 60s, too.
70's has really great Rock n Roll, Barry Manilow's talent proved to be diverse, Aerosmith, Boston, and the nearly forgotten unique orchaestral sound of ELO.
80's, well, I've never been a big fan of Prince, Madonna, nor Michael, but you gotta admit, they had talent and influence.
Late 80s: Rap comes on the scene. Country music goes pop. For good reason--people had to have something to listen to that they could stomach.
90's. Yawn. Time to dig out the oldies.
2004: Norah's voice is sooooo good! Um, what's playing on the pop stations these days?

I'll bite and pick a "best."
"Funeral for a Friend (Love Lies Bleeding)" by Elton John.
Maybe not the best song ever, and I also probably can't even choose a best song, but this song is so good that I had to at least mention it in this thread.
like smog, i don't think this song is the best song ever, and it's not even my favorite song, but it's a damn good song
while my guitar gently weeps - the beatles
"Dance With The Devil" - Immortal Technique, I've never heard a song with this much lyrical quality...it's amazing
When a man loves a woman - Percy Sledge
There's Music, and then there's Song.
For the purposes of the topic, shall we agree to opt for something melodic rather than monotonic?
Perhaps the "Best Song" is that in which the most people can participate. ? !
I would think it would have to be easily singable, without extremes in range, and not be dependent upon musical accompaniment.
Musical taste changes according to mood, but for the purposes of "Best Song" I imagine we would shoot for something light and upbeat... something inspirational without being sappy.
hmmm...i'd say the best music ever would have to be......musical. there's too much to pick just one. so i will pick my list of 840 songs....just kidding. well right now i'm listening to Aqualung by Jethro Tull. Good song. Good song.
Sun streaking cold
An old man wandering lonely
Taking time the only way he knows
Leg hurting bad
As he bends to pick a doggin
He goes down to the bog and warms his feet
Feeling along
The army's up the road
Salvation ala mode and a cup of tea
Aqualung my friend
Don't you start away uneasy
You poor old sot, you see it's only me.
that is the slow part. Don't think i got all the spelling right.
