Deja Vu all over again.

I'm currently reading the new Ludlum (The Janson Directive - Oct. 2002). In it is a scene where Paul, the main character, is undercover and meeting in a restaurant with an arms dealer. During the meeting, a drunk man recognizes Paul, who, of course, brushes him off. Unfortunately, this chance meeting alerts the bad guy to the fact that the person he's meeting with may not be who he says. The bad guy alerts his bodyguards who then try to take out Paul.

My question is small, but one that will drive me crazy (you understand or you don't) - I know I have read a very similar scene before - maybe even in an earlier Ludlum. Does this ring any bells with anyone?

YES@!! It sure does. AND this is not the 1st
time... I have noticed some VERY similar scenes
and stuff in a few of his books, so I quit reading
him.....besides I like John Irving ever so much
better......ever read The Cider House Rules -
Good God! What a book, when you are finished
you feel like you know those people intimately
and you don't want the book to ever be over,
it is so so way more - a million times more
than what was briefly shown in that movie of
the same name.
