help adobe acrobat 5.0

I downloaded adobe acrobat reader 5.0 because my old copy of 3.0 wouldn't decode some files that were sent to me.

Now....when I try to download a pdf file......the browser icon spin a bit and tells me............"done".....when nothing has been downloaded.

How do I fix this.
