People are having a Christmas party, shooting the breeze.

A : Cheers, baby.
B : You guys see Van Horn last night?
A : 32 points!
B : That kid's gonna take the Nets to the Championship.
C : The Nets? Are you kidding? They suck.

A and B begin to stare at C, a bit annoyed.
Embarrassed, C says,

"But they are due. They are certainly due."

Relieved to hear that, A and B smile again and everybody's happy.

Not quite sure what C meant by 'be due',
I looked up the dictionary to find many definitions of it.

From the context, I guessed what C meant by 'They're due.' is
'They have lost a lot of games already. Now it's time for them to win. They are due.'
Unfortunately though, there seems to be nothing that matches my guess below.
Would you take a look at the definitions of 'due' and
tell me how my guess was?

due

4. adequate; sufficient: a due margin for delay.
5. expected to be ready, be present, or arrive; scheduled: The plane is due at noon.
n.
6. something that is owed or naturally belongs to someone.

@Lordyaswas,
Not knowing what that means, I looked up the dictionary to realize
a 'teeth itching' idiom has something to do with bothering.

Did my question by any chance bother you?

@SMickey,
I'd go with definition six. The sentence means that the Nets have not won a championship in many years and it is time for them to win one.
