Hi,

I would be interested to know how would you pronounce "Obytion" and "Obition" as a native english speaker and/or as a non native.
Please tell me how are you related to english language (native, second language etc).

For Obytion, some Text To Speach online says O-bi-ssione, some says O-by(as in stand BY me)-ssione. (ssione as in "Ambition", im not used to phonetics writing sorry)

Big thanks in advance,
Romain.

@romain,
I'm a native English speaker of American English. I've never heard of the word. Furthermore, while looking it up online, I see no listing of any definition of the word.

Is this some sort of commercial product or service? What is the definition of the word?

Sorry, I can't help you.

Indeed the word doesnt exists.
I'm just gathering informations about how people would intuitively pronounce it :-).

Thanks a lot,
Romain.

@romain,
I have no idea why you are trying to pronounce a non-existent word. However, seeing that you have invented it, you can pronounce it any way you want. After all, you're the inventor so you choose.

Well, the question is simple. As a belgian speaking english as a second language I would pronounce it obi-ssione as in hobby and ssione as in ambition.
I just want to make sure other people would intuitively pronounce it that way and not oby as in stand by me.
Regards,
Romain.

@romain,
I'd pronounce "Obytion:" oBYshun.

"Obition" I'd pronounce: oBISHeeun, or oBISHeein.

Thanks for your answer.
So I guess if I want to keep it pronounced as in hobby I would have to spell it Obi rather than Oby.
Would it change anything if it would have doube B: Obby ?
How come we are saying hobby as hob-bi rather than hob-by ?
Thank you,
Romain.

I wouldn't pronounce "Obition" using "obby" or "bby" from the word "hobby."

I don't think I'd pronounce "Obbytion" differently from "Obytion."

"Hobby" is generally pronounced /hɑbi/ in North American English.

Also, I might pronounce "Obition" as: /oʊbIʃn/.

What about the "y" in "Obytion," and the "i" in "Obition?"

@romain,
This reminds me of how little I know about language pronunciation. I know american language fairly well, in some of its variations, but am a fool when Walter or someone else shows me pronunciation with funny letters for some noun in some language.
I know bits of other languages, but not in that international form.

I'm not completely unsavvy, but I didn't have the class that explained all that.

We need a thread by one of you who gets all that, peculiar international letters clue to the clueless.

Of course I can go study it, but an a2ker who knows could help.

First of all, thank you all for your thought.

I guess if people would have to pronounce that word (Obytion), some would pronounce the "BY" as in "Stand BY me" and some would pronounce it as in "oBI wan kenoBI" from star wars.

That's all I wanted to know Smile. I guess there isn't a "correct" answer, as all TTS (text to speach) online are divided and so are people on this forum.

Many thanks for your help.
Romain.
