Sometimes we just go out and buy the cheapest foods for our pets not realizing the dangers they may contain. Consumer affairs has a site receiving and showing most of the complaints on certain brands. I lost my best pal, a Doberman, to contaminated dog food. I looked too late at the complaints this dog food was getting from across the country. Symptoms were consistent with other sickened dogs. The reports have been coming in for several years and this dog food company seems to have done nothing about it. It is time for someone to send an inspector to their plants to see what is going on there.

@seac,
I have never bought any of my dogs or cats the cheapest food. Feeding a pet well, and being able to afford to do that, is part of the responsibility of being the owner. I have always wanted my pets to be as well nourished and healthy as possible.

I find this site very helpful in selecting the highest quality food for my dog.

This same site lists recalls of dog food and treats, and you can sign up to receive an e-mail alert whenever a food is recalled. That helps the owner/consumer stay aware of any problems that might sicken, harm, or negatively affect dogs.
