I read frequently about college professors "mentoring" students. I went to college. I remember the professor lecturing. Giving tests. Grading tests and handing out grades.

I wonder how much mentoring is done.

@gollum,
College professors sometimes help math lab tutors and they are available to students during their designated office hours.

@gollum,
As a student at CSU Hayward (now East Bay), I tutored students in Accounting which paid me a small stipend. When anyone has to teach students with different learning skills, you learn better skills in communication.
I did some studies for a business professor that involved investigating the cost of food in convalescent hospitals, because he was a member of the Board of Directors of a hospital. That was interesting and fun.
