If you have a coloured wall, what colour shelves look best? For example, shelves in the same colour as the wall, white shelves, a contrast colour, or a lighter/darker shade as the wall? Thanks

You can use whatever colors you want. It's your home. It depends on your taste.
However, if you don't want to make your place looks smaller, stick to the same color as your walls...and/or keep it neutral.
