Technology is not always a good thing.

Does technology in some ways seems to be going backwards? For example we first had the telegram. You would think the natural evolution after the invention of the telegram would have been texting, being that both the telegram and texting uses your fingers. After the invention of texting you would think the next invention would have been an easier way of communicating. Something that does not require you to use your finger. The telephone. You get instant response. You can hear and talk simultaneously. You don't have to take the time reading and typing text. Rather than type LOL, you can actually hear a person laugh. You can hear the emotions and inflection of a persons voice instead of reading words across a screen.

When did a tablet or a smart phone become the preferred way of watching a television show or viewing a movie? I prefer watching tv or a movie on a large HD television with superior video and superior sound in the comfort of my living room.

@Real Music,

You can, but you can't communicate that way :-)

One advantage of text is that it prevents people from talking over you. Of course people like that are probably not interested in hearing what you say or write anyway.

@Real Music,
From your link:
Quote:
people who spend more time communicating through social media than face-to-face are usually more depressed, negative and less social.

One explanation of why some people communicating via text are more depressed is that they can't deny what they have said like they often do when speaking. Text more easily reveals when someone is talking in circles and can't get out of their own endless loops.
It's very frustrating to be convicted by your own words.

That said, there are few things more fun that talking face to face when both people are honestly pursuing the same truth.

Yeah. So lazy we can spew out grand statements like "technology makes us lazy" without any supporting arguments (or even reading the thread).

@Real Music,
How do you feel about books?

Books changed the way that people communicated and took away the ability to hear the inflection of a person's voice instead of reading words printed on a page.

If human experience is being destroyed by technology, it started with the invention of the written word. Everything else is just an extension of that.
