help to identify a book

A person asks me to help identifying a book she read when she was young.

Here is all I know about the book

- The author is French
- In the beginning, the book mentions something likes drawing a goat, drawing an elephant but look like a hat. In fact, it is a snake eating an elephant.
- At the end, there are some details like: looking into the sky, the stars smiling

I know this is confusing, but that's all I got.
