Didn't occur to me until afterwords musing "Wow, that was quick" that unlike other recent dystopian movies like "Divergent" and "The Maze Runner" "The Giver" was an all-in-one movie. No sequels coming. Though they could, maybe even should. But while thinking why make such a short movie with such a great dystopian future and wrap it up in about 90 minutes? Then it occured to me what the point of it was. The movie was allegorical.
In keeping my promise of only low-spoilers, look for subtext and comparisons to other "very popular stories."
Story tellers have often put controversial subjects into sci-fi and other fictional settings just like "The GIver" does. And they did it quite well I thought.
