One of the fun things we did with the gallery/design studio back in north north, as I used to call it as it is very northern california, was shut the shop with a note on the door and go watch the derby at an old, and I do mean old, bar down the block. I think we had gin and tonics, don't remember that part. Eureka is not a crowded town, so we might have been in there (also a coffee bar/small shops/offices place) with, say, ten other people in that main rather beautiful room watching the big event. Excellent way to see a horse race. Beats Santa Anita, and I loved Santa Anita. I only bet once in maybe forty years; it's the horses I like.
