I was born September 1973, Wellington New Zealand in a COG house or commune. By 1974 we were in Sydney. By 1977 we had left the cult and were living in Brisbane.
It wasn't until the early 90's that I learnt where my name came from (Abrahim). This was after meeting my Dad for the first time and getting to read a copy of the book by Debra? Berg.
As relieved as I am that we didn't remain longer in the group and my memories are quite vague, I am still curious as to how things were in Sydney.
My Mum carries the scars to this day and is suitably horrified when I tell people I was named after a demon.

@Arbi ,
Hmm.
I've been under the constant impression that Abrahim is simply another spelling of the name Abraham, a man referred to as God's friend and whose covenant with God is considered by a great many to be the source of their religious belief.

"God's friend" sounds like a very good name to me.

@neologist,
This is (I believe) someone from Children of God. I don't think they're referring to the Abraham of the Bible.

@jespah,
I've been ignorant of such things before.
But surely he need not define himself as any other than God's friend.
