The brilliant multi-instrumentalist who was one of the founding members of Pentangle, the seminal British folk rock group, failed to show up for a gig Wednesday. Police found him dead of an apparent heart attack.

I was fortunate enough to see John perform three times. Once during a testy Pentangle reunion. They played at Harvard's Memorial Hall. Once, as a solo performer but I have no memory where and once with Jacqui McShee when they were both older, mellower, funny, kind and very English.

I can not tell you how sad I am.
