Close to two months since you wrote and I saw it today.
For insiders in English and American daily life joking is ok. But as soon as someone whose English is not a language used too often and for people not used to American daily life the jokes are sometimes plain insulting as they cannot be understood. Also very confusing as humour is different in different countries.
