Were you there when they crucified my Lord ?
Were you there when they crucified my Lord ?
Oh, sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble
Were you there when they crucified my Lord ?
Were you there when they nailed him to the tree ?
Were you there when they nailed him to the tree ?
Oh, sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble
Were you there when they nailed him to the tree ?
Were you there when they pierced him in the side ?
Were you there when they pierced him in the side ?
Oh, sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble
Were you there when they pierced him in the side ?
Were you there when they laid him in the tomb ?
Were you there when they laid him in the tomb ?
Oh, sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble
Were you there when they laid him in the tomb ?
Yes, edgar. Beautiful and humbling.
There is an alternate tune to "In Christ there is no East or West." It's jazz personified. Love it, too.
and the maestro was a bit off base with his New World Symphony. The spirituals were the ONLY true American music:

Here is some good reading, in the words of a woman of the time.
Thank you, edgar. I am too weary tonight to read the entire account, but I shall later. Hope you have hotdogs ordered in. <smile>
edgar, I still haven't read your account, but I got somewhat sidetracked by the portrait of a man. His name is Simmie Knox, and he was Peter Jennings' Person of the Week. I was stunned by the simplicity and power of the artist and his interpretation of Bill Clinton's portrait. He listened to Charlie "Bird" Parker as he worked. Thank God someone had the insight to recognize his talent.
