I'm always curious about music and have discovered many artists based on other's recommendations. Tell me about your latest CD purchase(s) and give it your personal rating out of 5.
Mine was:
Prince - Musicology 3.5/5
Lessee... the last dose of seratonin from Amazon was a couple of months ago...
Michel Camilo - Live at the Blue Note. Piano trio jazz. Very mellow, very nice. 4
Layla and Other Love Songs - Derek and the Dominoes. thirty+ years and it still sounds like it was recorded in a phone booth, but you can't beat Slowhand and Duane... 4
Ali Farka Toure - Radio Mali. 2.5 Not nearly as good as Talking Timbuktu, his album with Ry Cooder.
Feelin' Allright - The Best of Traffic. 4 What a flashback...
lol @seratonin - I KNOW what you mean, SealPoet.
Some sweet music there. Jeez, it's been ages since I've had a listen to Traffic - - a pretty good "Best of", you say? Gotta check it out.
Dido, very mellow... not too bad.
Alicia Keys, didn't like it at all.
The Klash... love it!
Gladys Knight and the Pips... love it!
Iced Earth The Glorious Burden Ripper Owens is with them now....a little pretentous concept cd, but still damn good.
Sinatra & Basie "'A Man and His Music" -adding greatness to the collection
Bette Davis (Miles' ex) "They Say I'm Different" - bootleg. had a bootleg price tag. but I had to have it!
Tamyra Gray's 'The Dreamer.' - Great CD! I highly recommend it. 5 out of 5.
My latest
Testament - The gathering ( 5 )
OverKill - Years of Decay (-5) I bought that one strictly for nostalgic reasons
Slayer - Seasons of the Abyss ( 5 ) always
Sting - Brand new day ( 5 ) great jazz rock fusion!
And a few others..... dont remember them all. I tend to buy in a big group when shopping for music. I cant just buy one. :-)
SHEWOLF - Seasons in the Abyss f'in rules.
War Ensemble was the sing along in my car for many years....
That howl of a guitar totally rocked...
Im a huge Anthrax fan though,,,when the re-released some of the past cd's lost due to crappy distribution and record contracts i snatched them up complete with videos' and some pretty cool cover songs.
The covered...
The Smiths
Cheap Trick
Husker Du
Kiss
Thin Lizzy
Radio Head
DRI
my latest accquisitions:
johnny cash - life (companion to his love, god, murder box set)
kevin hearn & thin buckle - night light (member of the b'naked ladies, this is not a b'naked ladies like album, interesting cover of "war pigs")
the zutons - who killed.....the zutons (if you like the kinks, blur (more than just the woo hoo song) and others of that ilk, this album will probably appeal, short but pleasant)
minus 5 - in rock (scott mc caughey leads the group minus 5 assisted by a revolving group of friends in cluding members of rem, john wesley harding, wilco and ben gibbard of death cab for cutie)
iron & wine - our endless numbered days (a nice slice of lo-fi/americana)
camera obscura - under achievers please try harder (if you like belle and sebastian, the ladybug transistor and other associated inteligent pop you should check this out)
Funny you should ask, Jasmine. I bought a 2 disk at Sam's last month with great trepidation. Usually, you get the songs no one has ever heard of - with good reason, and the shortened version of one or two keepers. This one is called "The Essential Simon & Garfunkle", and they're all good. "El Condor Pasa" was a bonus. Never heard of it, and it was love at first listening.
roger, I find the "Essential..." series very good - I have the Essential Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen. I've heard that the Simon & Garfunkel edition is superb!
Quote:johnny cash - life (companion to his love, god, murder box set)
<sigh> djjd62, I'm jealous - I have "Unearthed" and maybe this will be my next purchase
I picked up the new Beastie Boys CD this evening...God, it's so, so good. I'd stay up and listen to it all night if I could.
wow - I just read about that CD this morning, doglover and the reviews were great
Bootleg Series, Vol. 6: Bob Dylan Live 1964 - Concert at Philharmonic Hall - BOUGHT IT TODAY ----FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!! Love it!
Finally bought Prince's "Musicology." Wasn't impressed with it much.
two more installments in a great series
under the influence - bob geldof (boomtown rats)
under the influence - paul heaton (housemartins, beautiful south)
the cds contain music that have inspired or influenced the artists
the collection is pretty good so far i have the two above plus morrisey (the smiths) and paul weller (the jam, style council)
I'm embarrassed...I bought Monster Power Ballads today.......working up a power ballad section of our 80's tribute show.....
