Define "Christian"

How would you define "Christian" as a noun and/or as an adjective. Can the two be reconciled?

"Love thy neighbour as thyself." I have every bit of respect for Christians who try to live by that. "Christians" who spread lies and hate about other beliefs/non-beliefs are not real Christians, and I hold them in contempt.

1b. Adjective -- pertaining to the teachings of Jesus Christ.
