When I was young I was so self-conscious about my nipples showing. They'd show through a shirt & bra, even when not erect. Yet I was also self-conscious about having small breasts.
I was a very confused, somewhat prudish girl.

Let me be the voice of connection here and say that both mins and wimmins sometimes get embarrassed by the boinnnng factor.
Although I have to grin coz it definitely focuses attention (unwanted or not) when it happens. I've often wanted to laugh out loud when I catch someone staring, then I KNOW!

It isn't as much of a 'problem' anymore. Sadly, anatomy changes as we age.
I'd say that there are times to let them poke, and times to cover up.
