I registered on the website of a candidate for governor. I supplied my name, address but not my religion.

On the Jewish New Year the candidate sent me an e-mail wishing me a Happy New Year.

How did he know I am Jewish?

@gollum,
It's likely a mass email. I also got an email today from a city counselor regarding the Jewish new year. It's likely they send these vague greetings to their entire mailing list.

@tsarstepan,
Thank you. I thought of that that but I thought the candidate might confuse some voters while angering others.

@gollum,
I only get on Democrats' mailing lists. Jewish voters in the US tend to vote Democrat. The likelihood this innocuous greetings will bring forth ire from a fair chunk of the mailing list population is low.
