Amy Adam
Alison Brie
Helena Bonham Carter
Jessica Chastain
Tina Fey
Jodie Foster
Jennifer Lawrence
Julianne Moore
Carey Mulligan

@tsarstepan,
Julie is British, but wait, you know that. Isabelle Adjani is also french (I liked her in Camille Claudel), then there's Moreau, the woman with the eyes to remember..

Frankly, I don't even recognize most of those names, let alone have any opinions regarding them. And the ones I do recognize, I have a problem putting a face to the name in my mind. 21st Century actresses all seem to largely intechangeable, all cut from the same mold.

Greatest actress still living? Meryl Streep, hands down.

@ossobuco,
Not sure why I thought Julie was French. Must have been confusing her with someone else. I absolutely love Fahrenheit 451 (1966) .... Clarisse / Linda Montag and Doctor Zhivago (1965) .... Lara.

I also have to rewatch:
Afterglow (1997) .... Phyllis Mann
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) .... Madame Rosmerta
Julie Christie in New York, I Love You (2008) .... Isabelle (segment "Shekhar Kapur")
in order to catch her again in those roles.

@tsarstepan,
I can't say I have a particular favorite but I always like Toni Colette when she shows up in something.

I like all the actresses already mentioned, but I love watching Cate Blanchett in film, she can transform herself and take on wildly different characters.

She's a very talented actress.

She was great in Mary and Max (2009) (voice) .... Mary Daisy Dinkle
Little Miss Sunshine (2006) .... Sheryl Hoover
The Sixth Sense (1999) .... Lynn Sear

I'm really looking forward to this claymation/animated film:
The Boxtrolls (2014) (voice) .... Lady Portley-Rind

Claire Danes would lead my list.

Rachel Mc Adams would be there.

Helen Mirren would also.

I'll think of more...and post later.

Claire Danes has definitely matured into a great actress with her turn in Homeland.

Olivia Colman is consistently excellent in everything she's been in, from comedy to gritty drama.
