I'm 23, and have never taken music lessons. I have always been intrigued by the violin, but was always too lazy to apply myself. Now that I am older I am a little more disciplined in all areas of my life. Would learning to play the violin now be a futile experience? Do you have to work with it from childhood in order to get anything but screeches from it? Is it ever "too late" to learn any instrument?
Of course it's never too late!
I agree - it's never too late.
My next door neighbor is learning the guitar. He's in his 60s!
I thought I'd learn guitar when I'm older. I dunno why, but I figure I will be able to handle an instrument better when I am older.
I agree too, it's never to late.
When your arms have dropped off.
LOL---Gross, Mr. Stillwater!
Mr. Stillwater plays the nose flute.
mac11's neighbor's got me beat by 20 years. I first picked up a guitar less than two years ago...
I took up the clarinet when I was in my early 40's. Was never very good at it, but had a great time!
That's the whole point, isn't it, Phoenix?
We had a lady in our church who began piano lessons at 78. It's never too late--particularly because learning because you want to is much more fun & productive than learning because your parents are making you. Be patient, though, as you begin, and don't be discouraged--it may take several years of lessons/practice before the violin makes more than "screeches", but you will get there.
I'll tell you a true story. I played bass for many years and decided I was bored and wanted to play a lead instrument so I learned the piano. But I cheated. On my keyboard is a transpose button and since I didn't have time to learn all the scales I transposed to my favorite keys G and C. I've played many gigs this way and although I'm not a great player I really enjoy myself. One is never too old.
