Hi folks, I hope someone on here can help me because I've searching for years and am still no closer to the answer.
A few years ago I heard a version of the old hit by The Platters, "The Great Pretender". It was a great version but what made it unique was that on the last line ("pretending that you're still around.") there's a break after the word "you're" and then the last 2 words are delivered very drawn-out and very high, almost falsetto.
Since hearing that I've listened to literally dozens of versions by different artists and none of them is the one I'm looking for. I don't know the period, I don't know whether it's a band or a single singer, I don't know the nationality.
Do YOU know? If so, please put me out of my misery
Thanks very much,
Mike McGowan
