Across The Outback By Camel?

OK, in my typical "connected" fashion I have an idea for a book I may want to read--assuming it exists and is in print.

While driving to work, the station I was tuned into was playing that classic by America Horse With No Name. And somehow I got to remembering reading about a woman who went across the Australian outback by camel.

I want to say the title of the book was Alone, but if I had the person's name who did this journey, it would help me search for the book itself.

I read that one, Hood. Started out pretty good, but kinda fizzled out.

I thought the author was a bit of a flake. Nice enough person, but just a little too weird for my tastes.

YO ADRIAN!

Thanks. After I read Da Vinci Code I may see if I can find that book and work my way through it.

Marlo Morgan is an out and out fruit cake!

This book was not promoted in Oz because it was just too silly for words. She wrote it as fact, but left the facts out! Even as fantasy, it left a great deal to be desired (and I couldn't finish reading it!_

I have a copy of Tracks on my bookshelf, NeoGuin, if you want to pop over to borrow it! I'm not sure if Tracks is still in print, but mine came from a second-hand-book shop.

Margo, it sounds like you and I are in complete agreement on this book. To give you an idea how little I thought of the book, I loaned it to a friend of mine who is traveling to Australia to visit some friends. When she finished the book and tried to return it I told her to keep it.

I very, very seldom give away books.

With that one... I made an exception.

I think Amazon.com and B&N both have 2nd hand sections.

May be a fun summer read as I plan on lightening up my reading a bit (One can live on Chomsky, etc for only so long).

Where do we begin?.....

MM Hoax

During the past four years an extensive International Campaign has been generated by the Dumbartung Aboriginal Corporation to expose the fraudulent hoax of Marlo Morgan's, "Mutant Message Down Under" as a fabricated New Age fantasy based on deceit andCultural inaccuracies.

Also present were a group of Aborigines, who, in a very dignified manner, were trying, politely and without causing offence, to refute the accuracy/veracity of her claims. They explained that their tribe had lived for countless years in the same area in which she claimed her "walkabout" had occurred - and that they had never heard of these "Real People". My reaction was a great sense of sadness, in that these people were plainly hurt and bewildered by this woman's misrepresentations - but were far too dignified to more strenuously protest about the absurdities contained within her book.

She claims that before she invented them in the 1990s white Australians had never thought of fly screens despite the prolific number of insects. That is why her business venture, which is never named or located, was such a run away success.
