So the hostage takers do their thing and then announce terms, since when is the proper response " we will not negotiate, and we and a bunch of our friends are hunting for you and the hostages right now and when we find you we will kill you"?
If these guys are not totally stupid arn't all the girls dead and stuffed in a pit right now? They became a total liability to keep alive, and as every army knows it is much easier to kill the captives then to run prisoner camps. And to add to the benefits the goal of Boko Haram is terror, and a dead girl creates more terror than a live girl who had been a hostage once, because now every girl they take in the future is going to have a family fearing that she is already dead.
Help me out, what am I missing?
@hawkeye10,
Quote:In February, Boko Haram slaughtered 59 schoolboys by slitting their throats. The horrific incident was reported in the Nigerian press but was largely ignored elsewhere

So they have a history of mass kid killings, great.
@hawkeye10,
A live girl sold into sexual slavery may be more terror inducing than a dead girl depending on the culture and BH makes money off the sales so BH may not be ready to off the girls just yet. Also from a Nigerian point of view, dead girls work better than live girls in getting the public to grant them carte blanche the same way the 9-11 attacks got the US to give the President war powers when previous attacks did not. Right now the Nigerian public is very skeptical of letting their government go all out on BH for fear of what they will do to the children.
@engineer,
saw one unconfirmed report that they know where the girls are, that they were alive a few days ago...yet I see a report that the US has just sent 80 troops plus drones to look for them so who knows.
