@chai2,
And it should not matter how good she is -- many people like to come in as part of their work out or just for fun and shoot for 15 minutes.

@chai2,
these guys were older and should have known better. The young guys (the 20 somethings are actually nicer and will always play half court without an issue or anyone saying anything).

I'm not sure if I will call or not -- but if I go when they are there again -- I will not back down and will let them know what I think of them -- after I tell my daughter to leave in case a few choice words come out of my mouth.

@Linkat,
I recommend calling so the managers know there is a problem they need to be aware of - maybe also mention that they should have an adult manager on duty and available at all times they are open.

@ehBeth,
I think I will -- I plan on giving them a curiousity couple of days in case the manager is out for a couple of days or has a bunch of stuff when she gets back from the weekend.

@chai2,
Thanks for the link. Hopefully we don’t get in trouble for that. My older daughter is now old enough to use the exercise equipment. They used one of the trainers at the gym to go through the proper equipment with her while my husband was there. We have so many free uses of trainers. So since my husband is often times there with her whenever she uses the equipment hopefully that would not happen with him. Crazy.

A funny note – my little one when we were in the basketball court once was showing me how to make a free throw; basically because I stink at basketball, but I do try to help her. She actually got me to be able to make it. Would she get in trouble for training me?

The one thing is this isn't one of those large chain gyms -- there are a handful of them, but no more. And it isn't a huge gym; more basic so that is why we joined and our neighbor works there a couple of nights a week so she suggested it. I don't want to complain to her as she is just a worker bee that works there for a few extra bucks.

Oh I almost forgot – my husband went there last night with my daughter. Now we haven’t gone there much in the past month as my older daughter made the varsity softball team so she has practice/games every day except Saturdays – so with school work, softball and twice a week umpiring at the little kiddie softball games she doesn’t have much time to go to the gym. The younger one wanted to do AAU basketball – so with practice 3 times a week and with an average of 4 games every weekend again not so much extra time.

But she has the big state tournament this weekend so we wanted to help her get in some extra practice this week. So she didn’t have practice last night or tonight so he plans to bring her to the gym as last night was open gym from 5 until close and tonight same (today they have adult basketball pick-up games until 5). So when he gets there, again a bunch of guys are playing full court basketball.

So to ensure that this is something reserved hubby goes to the front desk and they confirm it is open gym. He did similar to me. He had her outside the court just warming up, dribbling and such and waited until they finished. When the finished, he again did the same thing I did. Walk in, go to opposite side of the court from where they were gathering and had her begin to play and practice. They said nothing to him, but he could tell they were not happy. She did her practice and when they were leaving, one of the men were at the front desk. He could tell they were complaining and overheard him say something along the lines of – we have to do something about this. The woman there seemed to shake her head and agree.

I have not heard from the manager yet (surprise..surprise) – I was so busy yesterday I didn’t have the chance. Hubby plans to speak with the manager today.

And they do advertise themselves as a family gym - they have many classes for children so it isn't like it is gym for hard core men or something like that.

@Linkat,
heh.

Funny how they felt ok about confronting a member of the 5'2" club, but not the ex-marine.

So hubby talked to the manager. She stated she heard about the incident, but did not know which member of the gym was involved that is why she didn't call. Typical blame the little guys. She also said the staff is not supposed to get involved in these issues, but to call the manager if there is a problem. She had no answer to why they did not call, but said they call her for every little thing.

She did apoligze and said she will speak about it/gym policy at the next pick up games - that is today - although who knows if these particular guys are at the real pick up games.

My husband also said if this occurs again and no one at the gym does anything then we will call the police for our protection as these men are harassing and threatening and if we do get hurt as a result they will definately be hearing from our lawyers.

Also if it does happen again will go elsewhere for our business.

He also explained his experience as a restaurant manager and owner and the proper way to handle things if you are not there.

@Linkat,
When he was explaining his experience on handling people to the manager, I'm pretty sure on the inside she was like this....
