Hi, I've been invited to sing at a biker bash. Now, I've never been to biker event. (lived a sheltered life)...
Anyway, I do a lot of bluesy numbers but something tells me I should have a little harder edge for this shindig. I'm no heavy metal mama, so if anyone could give me a couple of pointers, ideas, perhaps a memory of a time you have attended such a function, I'd appreciate the insight.

Highway star, Born to be wild? Too old-timey?

I think anything by Barry Manilow would go over quite well.

So, Celli, I know you sing, but don't know what style. If you do blues, I'd suggest stuff from the classic album by Janice Joplin and Big Brother and the Holding Company, "Ball and Chain" "Piece of My Heart", etc. Check it out. (You may be too young to remember) How about covering some early STones? Steppenwolf is great for this, but I'm not sure if they are coverable (especially by a woman), but, yeah, Born to be Wild, The Pusher, Magic Carpet Ride.

This is a song I think would fit the bill...I think?

Dylan's ~ Burnin' up the Centre Line

Hey, pretty momma come and ride with me
I know you wanna and I aim to please
Got a pocket fulla money and I'm ready to go
Come on little honey, let's start the show
{bridge}
Got plenty of gas
I go so fast
Ain't nothin' on the road
That I won't pass

I'm a candle with a fire burnin' at both ends
I'm too much to handle but, I'll let you in
If you ain't smilin' by the time I'm through
Honey chile, I'm a-gonna give up on you
{bridge}
The danger zone
Is my only home
By the time you see me
I'm already gone

I got what you want- You got what I need
I ain't built for comfort- I'm built for speed
Think you better hold on- with all of your might
We're gonna be gone until the mornin' light
{bridge}
Hey, pretty momma
Come ride with me
Gonna set some fires
Gonna set you free

Hey, pretty momma
Gonna be just fine
Gonna burn some rubber
down that- center line

Fea - I'm thirtysomething.... I'm not a big fan of Janis, but I like the tunes.

Cool! If not barry Manilow, how 'bout barry White? or barry Gibbs? Razz
(Why are none of my b's capitalized?) Confused
I'll thinka something! Cool
Doesn't have to be a chick singer, originally?

Go with Fealola's advice, she's on the right track. Also, ask the person that invited you to give you an idea of the kind of music this crowd will like. Maybe even something by the Eagles or Allman Brothers Band.

Invite Gus to go with you…tell him to brush up on his Barry Manilow.

Summertime Blues (Blue Cheer)
Slow Down (Crow)
7 and 7 is (Love)
Jenny Take a Ride (Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels)
Pushin Too Hard (The Seeds)

how well does the person who asked you to play know you? Maybe s/he wants you to play what you would normally play.......?

I thought of Motorcycle mama, but you might want to change the wording a bit!

Well, unless they're lesbian bikers... Wink That could work out nicely then!
I found some neat stuff though. First up:
Wind To Put My Wheels In
Words and Music © Copyright November 3, 2001
by James M. "Dago" Marchellino
http://dagomusic.phrasewise.com/stories/storyReader$114

From the time I was a young boy
Guess I've always had a problem with the rules.
So I had to do it my own way,
'Cause I didn't buy the crap they taught at school.
Caught some lucky breaks, made some dumb mistakes
And I always let my heart decide the truth.
When I hit the bumps I took my lumps
But I knew I'd never be nobody's fool.

Guess I've lived my life on the ragged edge --
Run a hundred twenty in the passin' lane...
And I'm good at leading with my chin
When I ought to bite my tongue and use my brain.
I've seen the darker side of things
But I know I'll never let it blacken me...
And I hope the way I live my life
Gives an ulcer to the belly of the beast.

CHORUS:
So give me wind to put my wheels in
And a blacktop to ride on,
And a woman's heart to keep me warm
And miss me when I'm gone.
Give me strength to do the right thing
As I stand against the storm.
And if fate should call and I should fall-
Bury me with my colors on.

So the years go by, the rust sets in,
But good company's the medicine I need.
And there's times I struggle with my load
But there's no one else that I would rather be.
Now time and age and the dues I've paid
Down the path I've run all lead me to today.
And the scooter's in the living room,
The winter's done and spring is on the way.

(CHORUS)

BRIDGE:
Yeah I've been away for way too long --
Gonna hear my pipes sing a highway song
And feel the breeze as the countryside rolls by. . . .
Something's wild inside me that I can't change
And if I could I wouldn't be the same
I was born to run until the day I die. . . . So

CHORUS:
Give me wind to put my wheels in
And a blacktop to ride on,
And a woman's heart to keep me warm
And miss me when I'm gone.
Give me strength to do the right thing
As I stand against the storm
And if fate should call and I should fall,
Bury me with my colors on . . . .
Yeah --

(repeat and fade)

Some good tunes here:

Or What about a Clapton tune?

This is a funny one by Fountains of Wayne, but you prob'ly shouldn't sing it at this shindig!

Seems the further from town I go
The more I hate this place
He's got leather and big tattoos
And big scars all over his face

And I wonder if he ever has cried
Cause he couldn't get a date for the prom

He's got his arms around every man's dream
And crumbs in his beard from the seafood special
Oh can't you see my world is falling apart
Baby please leave the biker
Leave the biker, break his heart
Baby please leave the biker
Leave the biker, break his heart

Now his friend leans over and says
Looks like we got us a fag
I wonder if that guy's read one word
That wasn't in a porno mag

And I wonder if he ever has cried
Cause his kitten got run over and died

He's got his arms around every man's dream
And crumbs in his beard from the seafood special
Oh can't you see my world is falling apart
Baby please leave the biker
Leave the biker, break his heart
Baby please leave the biker
Leave the biker, break his heart

And I wonder if he ever has cried
Cause he couldn't get a date for the prom

He's got his arms around every man's dream
He crumbs in his beard from the seafood special
Oh can't you see my world is falling apart
Baby please leave the biker
Leave the biker, break his heart
Baby please leave the biker
Leave the biker, break his heart

k's right, Skynnyrd would be good! Or how about Marshall Tucker Band? The Outlaws?
Never been to a biker rally or a biker bar, but it sounds like fun! Do you have men in your band, to protect you? Wink

Hi all, went jammin' tonight. Great ideas for some new/old songs here, thank you so much for the input.

Gus ~ Are you trying to get me lynched?

Yep, I have some big guys in the band but they do the first set of stuff that make my ears bleed and I'm the doo wop chick, so...I need some stuff to do in the second set. No fiddle sadly, but then again I don't know if the crowd appreciates that kind of instrument.
I'm soooo outta my element here. The boys want me to dress kinda slutty. I hardly wear make-up and I can't stand wearing tight clothes - but what the hay, you only live once right?

Keep the song list coming, I'm bound to have a great set with your help.

I was going to suggest dressing slutty as well. Wink
As long as you've got some large friends around.
A guy I work with has a family association with a bunch of bikers, and when they get a little high, they get a little out of control, he says.
Yep, sounds like a good time! Smile
When is it?
