The Darkness

So what do people think of The Darkness? When I heard the CD for the first time, I couldn't stop laughing at the singers falsetto flights of fancy, but after a couple more listens, it's starting to grow on me. I haven't heard anyone pull off this sort of overblown pomp-rock so well since Queen at their peak.

What a great description you give!
I think they'll be BIG, at least for awhile.
I only know the one song so far;
"I believe in a thing called love"
which will now be in my head all day!

grow on me

Thats ironic. Their new music video is for the song Gorwing on Me. Its thankfully much better than I Believe in a THing Called Love.

Out of the 10 tracks on the CD, 3 really stand out for me: Black Shuck, because it really rocks, and shows off the power and range of the band (makes me want to sooo see them live), Love Is Only a Feeling (the other love song), because it is a near-perfect power ballad, in some ways reminiscent of the '80s hair bands, but with odd lyric twists (as many of the songs have) like "The state of elation that this unison of hearts achieved/I had seen, I had touched, I had tasted and I truly believed." It's still bad poetry, but I just don't see Poison using words like that. The other standout tune is (the other love song) Love on the Rocks Without Ice, because it it's pure Spinal Tap, and every outrageous rock cliche ever done. I like Growing on Me okay, mostly for the line "I want to banish you from whence you came"....I mean, who uses 'whence'? Laughing

I've posted this before. In 1967 Ted Nugent and the Amboy Dukes opened for Tiny Tim. Massive Byrdland feedback scared the **** out of everybody.

Whenever I hear The Darkness all I can think of is that that old concert must have been their inspiration.

Welcome, Nic! My musical tastes are really diverse. It just comes down to whatever turns my crank on any given day.
