There is some question about what the pope actually said about the chances of atheists going to Heaven...but essentially the pope seems to be reaching out to non-theists.
Here are a couple of links to that line of endeavor. I think they are worth reading.
There may not be a Heaven; there may not be a GOD; there may not even be a here...but even if we are just living an illusion, it makes sense for us to attempt to get along and respect each other.
This Pope Francis guy seems to be doing that...and I think a lot of him for doing so.

Seems to me that what the pope is saying to Catholics is, “Get off your high-horse. Non-theists can be as “moral” as theists…and “morality” has precious little to do with gods or supposed devotion to them.
I hope the message is received and understood by all theists!
