"Whats the point in living?" asks Lahore,

http://able2know.org/topic/228333-1

…the very q I've long pondered, deserving special attention herewith. Issues religious notwithstanding, for cases of truly hopeless suffering we should legalize suicide, making quick, painless means available. But for Lahore and myself, evidently free of other major concerns, the q could remain to haunt us indefinitely

Where the mere speculation proves a source of discomfiture, chemical means might be enlisted to boost serotonin. Where resort to such chemical means proves to no avail, however, we might undertake a philosophic approach: Simply enjoy what we've got. Of course we'd all encourage achievement, provided only its pursuit too proves enjoyable

While the late Mandela's work is to be lauded, since apartheid's dissolution was inevitable we can't help wondering whether he might not have been happier as a nuclear physicist, a lumberjack, or even a clerk in the 10-cent store (now $1). Thus an only sure-fire approach is to lay back and enjoy it all. So at 83 what do I live for

Tuesday three bottles of exotic imported brew accompanied by 3-oz cup of nuts and slice of jerky (Incidentally nuts, recently revealed, significantly contribute to our longevity)

Thursday cup of Greek yoghurt with crunchy topping; Friday popcorn.; Three times a week, a chunk of cheese to accompany beer; After the occasional (but rare) drop to 150 lb, one qt ice cream (just one/mo.)

Anytime visit by our sons, our fiends (who often bring a new beverage) and grandkids; pet kitties Butters and Princess

Confirmed by my Better Half, who agrees, "That's about it"

@dalehileman,
In my opinion, based on your post, you seem to have the purpose of living to give yourself pleasant thoughts, regarding your daily activities. Not everyone can do that. Some folks, even at a mature age, gnash their teeth at supposed failures, imagined or real. So, I think you have a gift of positive introspection. Your brain is what makes your life worth living, in my opinion.

Also, I recently read that plain peanuts are as good for longevity as all those "mixed" nuts? And, peanuts being a legume can be included with all types of beans for health benefits. All the flora in my gut likely appreciate healthy food.

I also believe an interest in a sport, as a spectator (plain tv suffices) seems to keep me believing that the world will continue year, after year, after year...

Have a merry Christmas (and a happy New Year).

I do welcome 'em but often approach their nemesis chemically. Yet do I rationalize

Most certainly, whenever feasible

Oh I get those too

Foof you don't mean my brain

Yes fortunately 'cause when I run out I can then resort to my Better Half's unending supply

As it turns out my own diet by sheer coincidence, also mostly coincides

Interesting Foof that you should so assert as it conveys to me not the slightest value whatever

…..except to the participants of course

Thanks for your interest in my OP and for your seasonal wishes

@dalehileman,
I do appreciate, you took time to give your views... I would certainly have loved to understand it completely if it were written in somewhat simple English. All I could get out of it is the sentence "Simply enjoy what we've got" surrounded by many "notwithstanding"s , "herewith"s and 'dissolution's which I couldn't really understand. I will try to stick to similar thoughts Smile

…the question I've long wondered about; so I want to talk about it some more. Matters religious aside, for cases of truly hopeless suffering we should legalize suicide [make it okay], making quick, painless ways available. But for Lahore and myself, evidently free of other major concerns [worries], the question could remain to haunt us forever [bother us]

Where just the idea proves troubling, medicines might be tried to boost serotonin [Improves your mood]. Where that doesn't don't work, however, we might try a more thoughtful way: Simply enjoy what you've got

While the late Mandela's work is to be appreciated [liked], since apartheid [doing wrong to other races] was a sure thing anyhow, we can't help wondering whether he might not have been happier to study atoms, cut down trees, or even a clerk in the 10-cent store (now $1). Thus an only sure-fire [certain, likely to work] way is to lay back and enjoy it all. So at 83 what do I live for

Tuesday three bottles of rare imported [brought in from other countries] beer; Thursday cup of Greek yoghurt with crunchy topping; Friday popcorn. After the once-in-a-while drop to 150 lb, one qt [quart] ice cream

Anytime visit by our sons, our friends (who often bring a new drink), their grandkids; pet kitties Butters and Princess

Backed by my Better Half [wife], who agrees, "That's about it"

Note Lah: Noting "friends" formerly misspelled as "fiends" there's no wonder of some confusion
