We got one of these this year. As it turns out, a company we owned a small amount of stock in was purchased by a larger one. It would appear that as part of the purchase, instead of a simple stock swap, there was some sort of bartering arrangement that involved forcing investors to first sell the small stock.

Any idea how to handle this? We took a loss on that smaller stock and though we cannot use the loss this year, I'm thinking we need to report it so we can possibly take the loss next year. The thing is, we had nothing to do with the authorization of this sale.

ARGH!
