Not to be too anal here but...
Edgar has some great music threads like Songs That Tell Stories, Dylan, Country Music Of The 40's and 50's...etc
The head Geezer here Set , started this one. Spread a little love his way...

Does anyone remember that raunchy Harvard professor, who wrote the most wonderful songs? I have a disc of two of his best albums in my car. Whenever I am feeling a bit blue, I put on Tom Lehrer, and he cheers me up.

BTW, I know just about all of the words to his songs by heart, and sing along.

@Phoenix32890,
One of the quirky things that sold me on my new love and I being a well-matched couple is that she was able to recite with me a few bars of the Vatican Rag by Mr. Lehrer. Side note, this song was from around 1964-1966 or '67:

Furthermore, here's some biographical info on Lehrer then and now:

@Ragman,
Ragman-

"The Vatican Rag" was one of Lehrer's later songs which is not on my disc. I had not heard it in decades. But the minute that I read your post, the lyrics, heard 45+ years later, came rushing through my brain. Ah, the wonders of really fine song writing! Razz

@Phoenix32890,
"First you get down on your knees,
Fiddle with your rosaries,
Bow your head with great respect,
And genuflect, genuflect, genuflect!"

I first saw him perform his songs on the political satire show 'That Was The Week That Was' (64-65 in USA and '62-'63 in UK) hosted by David Frost on his first time around in US . Such works like 'Poisoning Pigeons in the Park' made me chuckle both as yung'n and an oldie.

Tom Lehrer was very popular around my house; as was Allan Sherman with Hello Muddah...
