Would you live in a house boat?

Ugh, maintainance. I can imagine it's more than just cleaning the gutters when you live in a house boat. I never gave that a thought. Maybe it's better to rent.

My aunt has a houseboat on the Mississippi River that I used to spend some weekends on. A real one, for a reasonable price looks like this.

Gibson is the only way to go for rivers. You can learn all about new ones here.

Of course, here in Palm Beach if you want to live on the salt water (hold onto your wallet), to keep up with the Jones's, you'll need something like this:

Bertram has an awesome website (probably cost as much as one of their boats) here.

Now, if you have a couple bucks, and you want to show up your neighbors, you could purchase the appropriately named "The Other Woman":

This "Other Woman" (love that name!) is 192ft. long, 6 useable decks with an elevator on board to get to them, yet drafts under 7ft. It boasts being the largest aluminum vesselÂ… can sail under motor (with slick water-jet propulsion) or wind power. It carries road vehicles in a landing craft for beach-side deployment and carries a 42ft tender among other water craft on board. They used to keep it at the Marina on the other side of the water from my condo, but it was so big, it was ripping out the peer. Rumor has it; the current owner has over $20 million dollars in furnishings and fine art on board too. I've also heard it is so technologically advanced; it can sail itself under either engine or wind powerÂ…Wow.
