Why are there so many songs about rainbows?

Was Kermit the Frog right about this? I'm not so sure. Off the top of my head, I can only think of two songs about rainbows, 'Why are there so many songs about rainbows', and the Stones' 'She's a Rainbow.' Please add more if you got 'em.

hobitbob, that reminds me of another rainbow song, for those crappy Pot of Gold choccys:

"We all know where the rainbow goes,
oh we're told it's a pot of gold."

And I can't omit "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", but that's still only four, and one was a jingle, so I'm not certain it counts.

A quick google turns up the following greats, near-misses and embarrassing oddities:

Catch the Rainbow -- Ritchie Blackmore
She's A Rainbow -- Rolling Stones Cool
Rainbow Interlude -- Mariah Carey Embarrassed
Just Like A Rainbow -- Pokemon theme Laughing
At the End of the Rainbow -- Hammerfall
Beyond the Rainbow -- Zonata
I'm A Rainbow -- Donna Summer Smile
The Rainbow -- Ween (Southpark)
Fly to the Rainbow -- Scorpions
Chasin' That Neon Rainbow -- Alan Jackson Rolling Eyes
Rainbow -- Fefe Dobson
Rainbow -- Jack Johnson (same song?)
Under the Rainbow -- Tommy Page
Under the Rainbow -- Trisha Yearwood (not same song)
The Chicken on the Rainbow -- Bella Thompson Confused
and...
MEDLEY: Look to the Rainbow/I've Got a Rainbow Working for Me/Over the Rainbow -- Arlen/Harburg (composer/lyricist for Judy Garland's famous one)

<WHEW!>

I've always been a sucker for Kermit's song, though, Cav...

I'm kind of partial to Isreal Kamakawiwo'ole's ukelele medley "Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World".

That was sung at Jim Henson's funeral. Crying or Very sad

I remember reading somewhere that it was the song that he put the most of himself into.

Funny, I remember that last line of the stanza above as "Is there something I'm supposed to be?" Dunno if that's my memory or an earlier version. More ambiguous.

In searching for that, found this -- dunno how accurate it is, but kinda funny.

Anyway, this is pretty deep for a kids' show.

Kermit the Frog wrote:
Who said that every wish
Would be heard and answered
When wished on the morning star
Somebody thought of that
And someone believed it
And look what it's done so far

Why are there so many songs about rainbows,
And what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions,
And rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we've been told and some choose to believe it
I know they're wrong, wait and see.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

Who said that every wish would be heard and answered
When wished on the morning star?
Somebody thought of that, and someone believed it,
And look what it's done so far.
What's so amazing that keeps us stargazing
And what do we think we might see?
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
The lovers, the dreamers, and me.

All of us under its spell,
We know that it's probably magic...

... Have you been half asleep? And have you heard voices?
I've heard them calling my name.
... Is this the sweet sound that calls the young sailors?
The voice might be one and the same
I've heard it too many times to ignore it
It's something that I'm s'posed to be...
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
The lovers, the dreamers, and me.

Laa, da daa dee da daa daa,
La laa la la laa dee daa doo...

Oh, if I'd heard that at Jim Henson's funeral, I would have lost it.

The last verse has always been a favorite. I used to sing this to my son as a lullabye.

I'd better turn in now before I start tearing up...
Good night, Kermit.

Dio - Rainbow in the Dark
Jethro Tull - Rainbow Blues

Kermit rules. Gonzo rules ("What a nice lookin' chicken!"). The movie rules. There are none higher.
