Thanks Edgar, I've been struggling through Ulysses for thirty years. This should help streamline the project.
The way I made it through Ulysses the first time is this: At first I pondered each word and got myself worn out. So, then I switched gears and read it straight through, quickly, without letting anything slow me down. I was surprised to look back at how well I comprehended the overall work. Now I go back to enjoy the language and to occasionally seek to unravel some of the more difficult words and passages.
Thanks for the advice Edgar. A book that arguably could be called one of the greatest written in the 20th century.
BTW, I recently read a biography of Joyce's wife Nora. I urge everyone to read this. It explains how important she was in the development of his style. A truly liberated woman.
The book is called Nora( I think)
