This question is about my mom. I am trying to find a few answers about Social Security. My mom has been married twice and both husbands have passed away. My dad first in 1993 and then my step day just a month ago. We are trying to apply for survivors benefits and we have so many questions. First my step dad did not pay a lot into social security because he was a state employee. My dad however paid Social Security all of his life. My mom is now retired from teaching and her income is not enough to live on. So will my mom be able to file under her first husband? If so will there be a limit to how much she can make each month on her retirement? She is 67 so I know she has reached her full retirement age.

Is she drawing her pension AND social security? she would draw the one that has the MOST $$ benefit. She can call the 800 number and find out. They are real good on the phone.

@PUNKEY,
Pension should not affect social security unless half her ss income plus all other income reaches 25,000. Nevertheless, a call to SSA would be a very good idea at this point for the other issues.
