What's the monthly cost of a T1 line?

I'm wondering if anybody can tell me what a T1 line costs per month and if phone companies ever allow those for residential installations. If you have a T1 and your own web server do you still have to pay for the bandwidth that goes through that T1 line?

holey crap! I didn't know it was that expensive! A couple of years ago I used to run a small genealogy web site through my dsl with a static IP address right on my desktop computer. I really want to get back into the webmastering business and thought it would make more sense to have my own server since I'm good with hardware maintainance. Couldn't see paying a company to do it. But it sounds like it's actually cheaper to have a company host for you!

In Japan you can get an FTTH fiberoptic connection (with a speed of 100 Mbps as opposed to 1.544 Mbps T1) in your home for as little as $25 bucks a month. There are hundreds of thousands of people using it already, though there should be more considering it's only marginally more expensive than ADSL & it's available to a fairly wide area. That $25/month fee includes 1 static IP, and unlimited free bandwidth.

(That isn't available anywhere else in the world though.)

It very competitive out there and there are great deals for shared and dedicated servers. Comcast has a static IP solution for $95.00 per month but I forgot the BW.

I don't believe that we do. Only Qwest, CableOne and a local outfit called FiberPipe. Boise isn't really known for it's wiring...

Also, I'm new to this town so I haven't really checked out the local communications services yet. I will probably go with a hosted service.
