Reticulation pressure problems

Hi all. Have just fixed up my sprinklers so they are all ok, but the pressure is abismal. When I checked the solinoids they looked fine, however when I opened the bleeder valve a little the pressure really improved markedly. When I closed the bleeder off the pressure dropped to abismal again.
Has anyone any ideas on why this is happening and how do I fix it?
