@saab,
It sometimes takes five or six bumps to move a page..
but posting six attempts by yourself can wake up the hamsters that jump up and down about flooding (which used to be a problem with some posters doing that).
So, sometimes it takes more than one poster to get the page to turn.

Vienna - Austria - Karlskirche ( St. Charles Church )

Quote:
In 1713, one year after the last great plague epidemic, Charles VI, Holy Roman Emperor, pledged to build a church for his namesake patron saint, Charles Borromeo, who was revered as a healer for plague sufferers. An architectural competition was announced, in which Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach prevailed over, among others, Ferdinando Galli-Bibiena and Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt. Construction began in 1716 under the supervision of Anton Erhard Martinelli. After J. B. Fischer's death in 1723, his son, Joseph Emanuel Fischer von Erlach, completed the construction in 1737 using partially altered plans. The church originally possessed a direct line of sight to the Hofburg and was also, until 1918, the imperial patron parish church.

Göbekli Tepe, Turkey.

Considered widely to be the first temple to have existed, it dates back to around 10,500 years ago. (8,500 BC) Although archaeologists first discovered the site in 1994, alot of it is still buried.

People like Ted Banning claim it was no temple, but an "ordinary" house, as he refers to the large amounts of animal bones, charcoal and other items pointing towards the site being a regular house rather than temple.

Chances are the roof was made out of wood, covered with dirt; the abandonment and rotting of the wood would've buried the site almost immediatly.

@ossobuco,
The photo angle seems a bit odd, perhaps up closer it has a better perspective. Smile

Quote:
The Basilica of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré is a basilica set along the Saint Lawrence River in Quebec, Canada, 30 kilometres (19 mi) east of Quebec City. It has been credited by the Catholic Church with many miracles of curing the sick and disabled. It is an important Catholic sanctuary which receives about a half-million pilgrims each year, including the Anna Fusco Pilgrimage from Connecticut. The peak period of pilgrimage is around July 26, the feast of Saint Anne, the patron saint of Quebec .

St. Anne is believed, by the pious, to perform miracles. People from all around the world come to visit the basilica. One of the church's builders had crutches; when he finished his work on the church, however, he is said to have been able to walk freely . Pillars in the front entrance are covered in crutches from people who are said by the parishioners to have been miraculously cured and saved.
