@vonny,
Those are Holm oaks on the Torre Guinigi in Lucca (place I loved on my visit).
It didn't occur to me to go up the tower, would have been a good view from there.

about the tower and the Guinigi family -

@ossobuco,
I'd searched for ages, with no luck, so it was a lovely surprise to read your post. Fascinating place - thank you for the link. I'm curious about the weight of the trees - must be a pretty solid building!

@vonny,
Yep. I used to do some roof top gardens and substantial trees like those need proper support engineered by the building engineers. I'd be interested in how they rigged that. It's not just the trees, but the amount of soil necessary and it's weight when wet.

I don't think I saw that tower while walking Lucca and I walked it for four days, lots to see. I think I knew they were Holm oaks from years before and didn't connect them in memory when I actually made it to the city. So, I found the link by looking up holm oaks in tower.

@RexRed,
I like the thought of rowing across there in the early dusk - just imagine getting closer to those lights - such a dreamlike setting.

the cable-car ride to the top of the mountain is quite interesting

@saab,
Years since I last rowed one! Must try and persuade my husband to organise a trip to a lake - be great to try it again!
