Harvard University's Memorial Hall
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/5e/Memorial_Hall_-_Harvard_University_-_IMG_0072.JPG

Saw Rockhead's Kansas college one back there, and thought for a minute he'd done Harvard. Memorial Hall is the center part of it, built in the 1870s as a memorial to all the Harvard students and alumni who died for the Union in the American Civil War (not for those who fought for the Confederacy),
It's got an absolutely beautiful Victorian theater in it, Sanders Theatre, an epitome of lovely woodwork.

Well, that turned out rather larger than I expected it to. But at least you get a lot of detail. The top part of it, where it starts to taper in, burned sometime in the 50s or 60s, and it stood there truncated and out of proportion for forty years or so, til they rebuilt it to the original Victorian specs, same ornate multicolor slate shingling and all.

Here's a picture of a wedding in the main hall of Memorial Hall. Looks a lot like a balding fiftieth reunion at Hogwarts, doesn't it?

And here's a picture of Sanders Theatre, in the right hand side of the picutre of Mem Hall's outside, above.

lovely, lovely, very sensuous wood. Somebody wrote a mystery about Memorial Hall. The climactic chase to nab the killer takes place above the Vixtorian Gothic cathedral vaulting you can see in the hall shot.

That Scott monument tower in Edinburgh is pretty tasty. Looks kinda like one of those camouflaged alien spaceships in Indiana Jones, looks like it's easily capable of reaching Mars, in a steampunk kind of a way.
