Today my vocal coach told me that he thinks instructors put too emphasis on breathing. Correct?

He was very impressed with my singing, and said not to overthink it and to sing from the heart. He said he had classical teachers tell him how the back and belly and ribs should expand upon breathing, but in his experience, this is not nessecary or natural. But I have heard so many other peoe say that breath is everything, and I certainly dont want to blow out my voice. Is his advice bad? Should I get a different teacher?

@CGrassa,
I think he was trying to tell you that YOU put too much emphasis on breathing.

Reviewing your posts since you've joined A2K, I'd tend to agree with him/her.

@CGrassa,
Why do you need validation from us amateurs and laymen when a pro gives you some advice?
