@indianpetstore,
Lime disease springs to mind, of course. But, then, you knew that.

@Lustig Andrei,
Actually, Lyme disease transfers from a rodent-borne tick to either a dog or to a human; however, it never is transmitted from dogs to humans.

That being said, I've never heard of a dog tick.

@Ragman,
They're probably not called "dog ticks" most places but I've seen plenty of ticks on dogs. My cousin in Maryland had to de-bug his two dogs regularly after they'd been running loose in the woods and underbrush. Some of those tics were fat and swollen with dog blood. No idea if they carried any diseases transferable to humans or not; back in the late '50s we were pretty ignorant of these things and didn't give it a second thought. And we got no warnings from my cousin's father who was an M.D.

It's Lyme disease, named after Lyme, Connecticut. There are several types of ticks who transmit Lyme disease, but i've never in my life heard of a "dog" tick. In fact, in the 1970s and -80s, those of us who went into the woods were warned about deer ticks.

@Setanta,
One need only go beyond the Wikipedia hit on Google

@Finn dAbuzz,
I understood from the get go that IPS meant ticks that attached themselves to dogs.

Do you think it's possible, Finn, that Ragman and Setanta really didn't understand or was it simply a case of pedantry?

@JTT,
You really are an unpleasant sort of an asshole, aren't you? How do you feel your comments contribute anything worthwhile to a thread? Suck on a lemon for awhile. You clearly seem to be dedicated to being negative and drag down any thread 100% of the time into your drivel and rancor.

The OP seems to be a spammer who may or may not have a full grasp of the language. Some of us were trying to add to understanding of diseases transmitted from ticks.

@Setanta,
For those ticks (deer or rodent) apparently need a fair amount of time on a host (in some cases 24 hr) to gorge themselves on the blood and laying larva. I always examine my dog well when we run in the fields. I also medicate my dog regularly and appropriately with excellent tick and flea meds.
