A story about a boy yearning for a model galleon he sees in a curiosity shop window. The child takes all the money he has to the shop. The owner explains that the clipper costs "All the money in the world and a little bit over". Forlorn the child views his savings mumbling he possesses no more. But the shop keeper declares that the lad has only to borrow a penny to lay claim to the vessel : "all the money in the world and a little bit over". The galleon is of course magic and whisks the lad off on thrilling adventures ... That's as much as I recall.
I would like to find the book for my children. This request is a bit of a long shot as there's no author or title ... but maybe, just maybe, someone may know ... Thanks in advance to anyone who does.
@Odette Sacroug,
Possibly, The Ship That Flew by Hilda Lewis.
Looked up a review:

Quote:...model ship in the shop window, he wants it more than anything else on Earth. But this is no ordinary model. The ship takes Peter and the other children on magical flights, wherever they ask to go. Time after time the magic ship takes them on different exciting adventures, to different countries, and to different times. And why should magic ever end?
@Sturgis,
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!"
He chortled in his joy.
Thank you very much indeed. That's EXACTLY it! And a Wiki search led to the quote. Lucky words in the descriptive tags Google tossed up were common to my little summary :-)!
@Odette Sacroug,
Did you know the book Sturgis? Only I was curious to know how you traced it. Googled the price quote but got nowhere. Just wondered ... Thanks again.
