Is this a lot of money to travel across the country?

Hi guys

My teacher is holding a trip to Washington DC & NY at the end of this school year. Oh, I am 13/8th grade. We are in Los Angeles, CA. The whole trip is going to cost $1, 714. Would I be getting "ripped off"?
