The man who worked at the bank was scolding his son who was in school. His son was just caught using drugs. The man who worked at the bank said to his son who was in school: “act as if someone is always watching.” The son replied: “that’s a terrible way to live, I feel so sorry for you.” The man, in a fit of rage, hit his son.
The next day was Yom Kippur. The man went to his rabbi. He explained the situation and what he had said to his son the previous day. He then asked the rabbi what he should have done. The rabbi told the man: “First, God is always watching. And second, if that is why you do good in your life, then God is no longer watching, for god knows that you are only acting when you do good.
